Which Is Better Ps2 Slim Or Fat?

Play Station 2 has had the honor of being the best-selling consoles of all time. It was a game-changer in the console industry that stayed in production for more than a decade. Even now it is a system that can run some considerably famous games with fair gameplay and graphics.

The Play Station 2 or PS2 came in two different versions commonly known as the fat and the slim version. The fat PS2 came with a 294 MHz processor which can be compared with the speed of the original Intel Pentium processor. It was a dual-core processor with one core handling the processes and the other core handling 32-bit graphics at 123 MHz speed. Whereas the slim PS2 had a 299Mhz CPU which was a little faster than the fat one. However, the graphics core was the same as the fat version had. The slim PS2 also had a built-in ethernet modem.

If we talk about the differences between the two. Following are a few points that can highlight some major differences between PS2 fat and PS2 slim.

  1. The fat version has a bulkier and heavy body. The slim version is thin and lightweight.
  2. The fat version had a front-loading disc drive whereas the slim one had a top-loading tray.
  3. The fat version had HDD support while the slim one didn't have it.
  4. The fat one came in one design and color while the slim one was introduced in a few different colors.

These are just a few things that identify the differences between fat and slim PS2. The HDD was although not required for every game. However, some games need some extra space like Final Fantasy XI. Hence with the fat version, one had the option to use a hard disk to store the saved files.

Comparing the two would let the slim version win. The fat one although was the original and previous built version. It supported all the games and ran them smoothly. However, there was some design factor that makes the slim version superior.

Since it was redesigned so it was sleek, slimmer, lighter, and thinner. Which makes it easy for the user to handle, store, plug, and play. The slimmer version had no heating issues in comparison to the fat one. The slim PS2 also had a top disk tray makes it easy to place the disk and runs it secure.

The fat one had two major problems related to the disk. First was that the tray used to get stuck after a certain use time. Since dust and other things cause wear and tear of parts. Secondly, when you place the fat PS2 vertically, it doesn't hold the disk secure and is used to fall in the tray. Hence a slim PS2 is better and more reliable than the fat one.

While these were a few points that discuss the difference between the two. If you still own this console you can enjoy playing your favorite games on a monitor using a PS2 HDMI adapter. It would give you a better gaming experience with a greater refresh rate.
